Our Impact
Though our program originally began in 1991 in the El Campo neighborhood of La Habra, by 1996 our organization had already seen a positive change in the area with a reduction of gang related crime and an increase in high school graduation rates amongst local teens.
The positive change in the El Campo neighborhood contributed to our efforts to extend the program into other low-income and underserved neighborhoods. The organization relocated to the Grace/Pacific area thanks to the partnership with La Habra Neighborhood Housing Services. After its relocation, our organization continued to provide the same services in our new area and slowly started to see a positive change taking hold.
By 2018, our organization noticed the significant decrease in gang related crime in the Grace/Pacific neighborhood as compared to surrounding areas. This allowed us to realize the fulfillment of one of our fundamental goals: crime reduction. However, we still saw a need to provide free academic services to this underserved area and decided to stay.
Then in 2020, the neighborhood was severely impacted by the COVID19 pandemic. Many families struggled to cope with the changing educational demands and parents found themselves unable to help guide their children through the transition or assist them with homework assignments. We switched our services to an online platform that allowed students to call us via phone or through zoom for homework assistance and math and English tutoring.
Rosie's Garage still maintains a strong in-person presences in the Grace/Pacific neighborhood, offering free academic services, like free tutoring and school supplies, to low-income families.
The following data reflects the student population and program outcomes for the 2023/2024 school year.
