Initiated as a program to combat the growing crime and gang rates in La Habra, California in 1991, Rosie's Garage has helped hundreds of children achieve academic excellence by providing quality after school programing.
When we first opened our doors the organization functioned out of our Executive Director's personal home garage. Now we have 2 active sites in La Habra and continue to partner with local nonprofits, universities, and governments to improve the programing available to our students.
The neighborhood we serve has undergone a drastic transformation since our organization moved into the neighborhood.
Crime Reduction and Prevention Prior to Program Introduction at Grace
One of our main goals has been to reduce the crime and gang rates in the communities we serve. We manage to accomplish this by introducing high quality academic after school programs in underserved and underprivileged areas. Before we opened our main site off of Grace Ave and Cypress in La Habra, there were a staggering number of police calls to that area, as indicated by the blue line in the graph. This was compared to the neighborhood in Santa Ana that we were serving at that time (red line), which shows a significantly low number of calls.
Crime Reduction After Program Intervention
After years of serving our current community off of Grace Ave in La Habra, we have managed to aid in the reduction of crime in the local neighborhood. As indicated by the blue line on the graph, our current crime rates are at an all time low. Less than 25 police calls were made to our immediate neighborhood, whereas the crime in the surrounding neighborhoods (the red line) continues to remain higher than that within our neighborhood.
Breaking generational poverty by educating one child at a time.
Provide, educate, and inspire a love of learning within a safe environment for at-risk children.
